I want to share with you about the amazing wrestling teacher and coach that you have at Alta High School, Coach Barry Harrington. I will start by sharing the words of my son who is on the wrestling team, “He is teaching us to be good human beings that can wrestle. We aren’t a team; we are a family and we push each other to be better and to work harder.”
That is exactly what I have experienced watching Coach Harrington. When I attended a parent meeting at least half the young men when they left the room said, “Love you Coach!” When I commented to my son on that he responded, “Dad I have never had a coach that I felt like loved me and wanted the best for me like he does.”
Coach Harrington also spoke about how they are Student Athletes and the “student” is first before the athlete. He pushes the kids not only in their wrestling but also in their academics.
I look around and see all of the mental health issues that our youth are experiencing and the desire to “belong” and am so grateful for Coach Harrington. I wish every student in our schools could experience Coach Harrington.
I just want to express my thanks to him and to the school district for having such amazing teachers and coaches that support my children.
