Take Action for Education

Thank you for taking the first steps in Taking Action for Education by finding this page.  Utah PTA has many resources to help guide you and show you how to get informed, involved, and engaged.  We also have trusted community partners that have great information as well.

First Steps

Simply thank a teacher or educator.  Printable Cards make it easy to add a personal touch.

Have 2 minutes?  Find out Who Represents You! Look up your legislators on le.utah.gov (bottom right area, (1-minute how to video) ) and add their email and phone number to your phone contact list.  Then when an issue comes up you are already one step ahead.  They need to hear your voice.  One legislator said she was surprised how few constituents she hears from, about 5% of her inbox.  Let's change that!

Have a little more time?  Fill out Who Represents You either digitally or print the PDF below.  There are tips on how to find other representatives like your state school board member and US House of Representatives.

Reach out NOW to start the relationship before things get too busy (for them and for you!)

More Resources

Have a "Take a Legislator to School Day!"  Help show how much good the state education funding is doing.  Have them listen in to a PTA meeting so they can be informed on all you are doing and what concerns you have.  They can come before or after the meeting to visit a classroom.  For Secondary it could be any class, but some schools have them join a government class.  For Elementary, they can watch our amazing teachers, read a story to the class, or observe a full day kindergarten class in action.  Watch our short webinar for more details and ideas.    Customizable Canva template available.

Thank the State School Board for all their time and work for Utah kids!  Did you know some of their meetings last 17 hours!  With just a few clicks you can email them to show your appreciation.

Utah PTA has 3 statewide advocacy events each year (Fall Advocacy Conference, Utah PTA Day at the Capitol, Founders Day).  Each one is an opportunity to learn skills, gather with other child advocates like yourself and be informed on the current issues, like the legislative session.

Join Utah PTA's Legislative Advocacy Committee - learn what issues are happening from our commissioners.  Meets monthly through the year and weekly during the Utah Legislative Session.

Americans need to disagree better. And by that we don’t mean that we need to be nicer to each other, although that’s helpful. We need to learn to disagree in a way that allows us to find solutions and solve problems instead of endlessly bickering.
