Each member of PTA has an important place in PTA advocacy
The mission and purpose of PTA state that a primary focus of PTA is “make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children,” “to speak on behalf of children and youth,” and to "secure adequate laws for [their] care and protection..." Advocacy work for children and youth must be a unified effort of local members with council, region, and Utah PTA officers.
Volunteers make the difference
National PTA and Utah PTA has a rich history of successful advocacy work, but it takes an army of volunteers to continue the work. Volunteers are at the heart of PTA advocacy. We speak up for all children and families to make a difference at the local, regional, state and national level. Utah PTA's volunteer advocacy team includes Utah PTA Executive Committee, seven commissioners, several specialists and members of the Utah PTA Legislative Advocacy Committee (LAC). No one is paid. Each advocacy volunteer donates hundreds of hours each year meeting with elected officials and policy-makers, attending committee meetings, speaking at meetings of the Utah Legislature and carefully monitoring both state and federal legislation. Advocacy focus areas include education funding and policy, community and school safety, juvenile justice, child care and early education, children’s health and other issues affecting kids and youth.
