The Utah PTA opposes HB0178 due to concerns about continuity of care and increased costs to local hospitals. Removing CHIP eligibility alternatives may force more families to rely on emergency rooms, increasing uncompensated care costs. This bill will strain hospital resources, raise costs for taxpayers and insured families. Utah PTA supports consistent access to primary care to all Utah children as it leads to more cost-effective and better health outcomes.

Position Statement: Right and Services for Undocumented Children

Federal, state, and local entities have a responsibility to contribute to the well-being of children by offering health care and other social services needed in their areas. Denying these services to children, regardless of their citizenship status, an endanger communities and create serious health and social concerns.
