Requirements for submission
- Open to all fully or partially enrolled Utah Public School Students from Grades K-12.
- Entry Divisions: K-5, 6-8 and 9-12
- Each video entry must be the original work of an individual student entering. Only one student can be the applicant and should be filmed in the video.
- All videos must be submitted on Utah PTA’s website application. Videos must be submitted in MP4, MOV, or WMV format.
- Any and all persons whose image and/or voice are recorded for the video entry must sign the Consent Form provided below. If persons recorded are minors, they must have their parents sign the Consent Form agreeing to the terms therein. Entries that do not have proper Consent Form releases for each person recorded will not be considered for the contest.
- For the students’ safety, first names only can be used in the videos except for the educator’s name. Students are encouraged to film the video in places that are not easily recognizable. Students will need to turn off location geodata when filming or remove it from the film before submitting it.
- Each video entry must be 90 seconds or less to be considered.
- The content must be family friendly, clean and appropriate. Inappropriate videos will not be considered.
- All copyright laws must be obeyed. Students must verify that they own the rights to all media (video, photos, music, etc.) contained in their entry. If students are using royalty-free materials, they must include credits for these materials in their entry. If students are using copyrighted materials, they must be able to provide written permission for their use of the material from the copyright owner.
- Entries that violate copyright laws and do not contain proper credits, will not be considered for the Because of an Educator Video Essay Contest.
"Because of an Educator..." Video Essay Consent Form Guidelines
The Consent Form is for any individual whose recognizable voice and/or image is used in the video entry.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the Consent Form is to ensure that individuals included in video entries and the parents/guardians of minors included in the video entries are aware that their images and/or voices will be used in the entry. It is also to help these individuals understand that the entry may be used by Utah PTA and educational partners and may be copied, distributed and/or displayed in a number of locales, both public and private including YouTube and Social Media.
IMAGES: The Consent Form should be used if a recognizable image is included in a video entry. This means any time a person could be recognized from an image, usually involving all of part of the face, then the Consent Form should be used. The form should be used for any person regardless of age.
VOICES: Where a person's voice (child or adult) in the video entry is used, and his or her voice is recognizable, a Consent Form is required.
WHEN A CONSENT FORM IS NOT NEEDED: Participants should make a reasonable effort to obtain a Consent Form from persons in their entries. However, in some circumstances, it may not be possible to obtain a signed Consent Form.
