That Utah PTA support collaborative efforts between the home, school, private physicians,
and community resource agencies to create mental health support networks for families, to recognize the prevalence and need for recognition of mental health illnesses and associated diagnosis and treatment, and to increase the number of psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, and mental health professionals to provide adequate services for those needing help;

That Utah PTA and its constitution associations support increased education and awareness campaigns to share evidence-based mental health knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders to students, families, and communities; and, provide early intervention and prevention programs; and, help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness;

Utah PTA and its constituent associations will participate and support methods to assess
and recognize the risk and protective factors in their local schools, families and
communities;

Utah PTA and its constituent associations will support evidence based programs to
decrease risk factors and increase protective factors in our homes, schools and
communitie

Resolved, That Utah PTA work with school districts and local schools to encourage first aid training and use of universal precautions for all school personnel.

That Utah PTA and its constituent associations support legislation and school district
programs that will develop, implement, and support a comprehensive (K-12) age
appropriate youth suicide prevention program in all school districts in Utah;
That Utah PTA and its constituent associations support education and training to parents,
teachers, administrators, students and the community that focuses on recognizing warning
signs, teaching intervention skills, and providing safe messaging in regards to suicide.

That Utah PTA and its constituent associations work with schools, school boards, and other
appropriate bodies to encourage schools to practice principles of sound nutrition for all
foods and beverages made available to students in the classroom, the lunchroom, or in
vending machines;
That Utah PTA and its constituent associations support efforts of schools and families to
provide children with food and drink that is low in calories, low in saturated fats, low in
sodium, and higher in fiber

Underserved Children, Families and Pregnant Women. There must be assurances that low income and other high risk families have coverage for services that may not be included in a basic benefit plan such as outreach, case management, transportation, home visits and child care.

That Utah PTA and its constituent bodies encourage district school boards or charter school boards to adopt policies to examine their own chronic absenteeism data; implement prevention programs, positive support, and outreach strategies and services for students and families; and develop community-wide awareness strategies to address chronic absenteeism

That Utah PTA support programs that help mentoring families, including those that focus on the individual or family for a significant amount of time, teaching parenting skills, promoting continuing education, encouraging good health care for themselves and their children, and helping children succeed in school.
