The goal of "Uplift Utah", First Lady Jeanette Herbert's initiative, is to encourage parental involvement and assist in finding resources for parents to help in improving their parenting skills. Mrs. Herbert is working with different State agencies such as "Parents Empowered" and the Utah State Office of Education's "Prevention Dimensions", which is a part of Utah's health core curriculum and Utah Safe and Drug Free school program.
This program is recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services as one of the nation's exemplary programs. These programs, along with others, are concerned with the well-being of our children. Utah PTA is proud to be a partner in Mrs. Herbert's initiative, and we would like to encourage local PTAs and school staff members to use this program at their schools.
Find more information at the Uplift Utah Families website.
If your school is planning an event please go to www.firstlady.utah.gov as soon as possilbe. Highlight "Request the First Lady" and submit the request. Mrs. Herbert would like to visit as many schools as she can in association with this program.

As a portion of the First Lady of Utah Jeanette Herbert’s initiative, Utah PTA encourages elementary schools to present an "Uplift Utah Families" Evening Concert for parents and families. Some of these concerts have already been presented during Red Ribbon Weeks throughout Utah. During this concert, students perform songs from the Utah State Office of Education program, "Prevention Dimensions". Families also enjoy the multi-media component, featuring a message from the First Lady, humorous "Parents Empowered" commercials and instructional "Strengthening Families" spots. A CD containing select songs from the "Prevention Dimensions" curriculum is included.

Is a non-profit corporation established by the First Lady of Utah Jeanette Herbert to assist parents in gaining access to programs and information that will help them acquire the skills necessary to raise loving, responsible children. Strong parent-child relationships are the key to providing children with the tools necessary to make safe and healthy choices in their lives, keeping them free of drugs, alcohol and exposure to pornography.
Another important component of "Uplift Utah Families" is the upcoming website. We will have a link from the Utah PTA Website for easy access for our parents. This will be a meaningful and functional resource for parents and families. The website will offer links to select programs, organizations, and agencies that provide important information that can help enhance parenting skills. Also featured on the website will be a calendar of events, messages from the First Lady and other articles and material that strengthen families. Eventually, the First Lady would like to establish an area on the site where parents can write in and ask questions or present problems they are experiencing. "Uplift Utah Families" already has the support of the Utah Prevention Network (UPN) in helping to facilitate, filter and answer these questions. The UPN is comprised of mental health agency representatives from Utah’s 13 Local Authority Districts, under the direction of the Utah State Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health. All questions and concerns will be reviewed by a panel of experts from UPN, who will provide direction, resources and appropriate answers. A representative from the Utah State Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health will chair the committee or expert panel. Select questions and responses may appear on a message board posted on the website for learning purposes.
