Veterans Day Concert and Military Family Essay Contest

Every year Utah PTA, in partnership with Utah National Guard, holds a Veteran's Day Concert. There is also an essay contest for Military Families held in conjunction with the Concert. The three winning students from Elementary School, Middle School/Junior High, and High School receive a cash prize and are honored at the Utah National Guard Veteran's Day Concert in November.

Friday, November 10, 2023 at 7 p.m.

To be held in person at the Tabernacle on Temple Square

 

Utah PTA, in partnership with Utah National Guard, is also holding an essay contest for military families! The three winning students from elementary school, middle school/junior high, and high school, from military families, will be honored at this concert and receive a valuable cash prize!

 

A military family is one that has an immediate family member presently serving or who has served in the Active, Reserve, or National Guard (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard). If children live with guardians or grandparents who are presently serving or who have served, they are included.

 

The theme for the essay contest is "Why I am proud of my veteran!" The essays must be no more than 500 words. You can email or send your essay to our Utah PTA Military Families Specialist, Kathy Allred, at the address below. Word format is preferred. The article can be send any time before the deadline. Please include full name, school grade, school name, mailing address, email address and contact phone number. The articles must be in by Friday, October 13, 2023. The winners for 2022 are:

The Elementary School Winner is Azaylea Olson, who wrote about her grandfather. She is a 5th grader from Silver Mesa Elementary in Sandy, PTA Region 17.

The Middle School Winner is Noa Pack, who wrote about her father. She is in 8th grade at Draper Park Middle School in Draper, PTA Region 17.

The High School Winner is Rylie Bruin, who wrote about her great grandfather. She is a senior at Stansbury Park High School, PTA Region 7.

These students who wrote the winning essays will be recognized and receive a cash prize, to go towards their further education, at the Veterans Day Concert held Nov. 11th at the Tabernacle on Temple Square.
